The legal department are committed to innovation and the progression of the team and each employee. The department is operating a hybrid first approach to flexible working, meaning that the majority of the team are working in a hybrid way, working within the office or other locations to meet the needs to the role including attending hearings, committee and client meetings are required.

Having reassessed how the department can meet the needs of the Council to realise its vision and having seen the development of staff into high graded roles we are now recruiting and have exciting opportunities throughout all levels of the team from senior solicitors to newly qualified; legal assistants and those seeking a training path to becoming a lawyer as well within the departments business support team.

We are seeking a lawyer to join the Adults and Childrens legal team. You will assist the council in all of its safeguarding functions in a diverse and interesting area of law that continues to develop and advance in a wide range of applications touching the lives of adults and children in the Swindon Borough.

The solicitors within the team have all been trained to undertake work for both Adult Services and Childrens Services however, we welcome applicants from those who are only seeking to work in one of these area. You will hopefully have a background in social care law either in private practice, local government or the Court service.  

You will be working within a friendly and supportive team environment where your professional development will be nurtured and appreciated. You will be working on some of the most sensitive and challenging of cases in an area of law which is extremely rewarding. You will be supporting our social care clients in achieving the best outcomes for children and adults across the Swindon Borough.

The role will involve handling a varied caseload of Children Act and Care Act matters, as well as providing legal advice and representation to social workers within the Family Court and Court of Protection.  

Ideally, we would like to recruit a solicitor with knowledge of the legislation, regulations and practice directions governing social care law and with an enthusiasm to develop and grow your advocacy experience in this specialist area. Advocacy experience would be beneficial. If you are looking at breaking into the area social care law, having practiced or trained in a different area we would also be interested to hear from you.
