In conjunction with other members of the team you will assist the Principal Lawyer and Head of Legal Services in providing an efficient and effective shared legal service to both Malvern Hills District Council and Wychavon District Council (“the Councils”). Your main areas of work will be planning, governance and general advice – see job description for full details.
You will need to demonstrate commitment to delivering the Council's values of great customer service, openness and accountability, innovation and improvement and fairness and respect.
You will also be responsible for championing and demonstrating the Council’s Leadership Behaviour Framework by inspiring, communicating, collaborating and empowering self and others and leading by example.
Key Requirements:You will be educated to degree level with a 2:2 or above. Being legal qualified and/or having relevant experience of planning or local government matters would also be an advantage.

Skills & Experience:You should have demonstratable and suitable legal and/or planning experience as well as having an ability to carry out legal research and provide prompt and accurate advice to officers and councillors. Experience of drafting legal agreements is essential.
A good working knowledge of Town and Country Planning legislation and experience of dealing with planning matters or other areas of local government is desirable but not essential.
We are looking for someone with excellent skills in:

- drafting and negotiating legal agreements,

- accuracy and creativity
- ICT
- dealing with sensitive matters
The right candidate will be a team player but will also be able to work under their own initiative. You should also be flexible, able to cover occasional evening committee meetings and be able to travel to meetings both inside and outside the district.
