Job Description:

£37,568 - £41,591 pa

Would you like to undertake varied, high-quality legal work with like-minded and supportive colleagues who are committed to providing excellent public service and making a difference within the local community?

We wish to recruit up to two flexible, highly skilled lawyers to join our Corporate and Regulatory Team to advise on matters of commercial contracts and procurement. You must have experience of and a genuine enthusiasm for contract and public procurement law, with an excellent approach to public service and client care. Candidates from both the public and private sectors are encouraged to apply.

The Role:

You will provide legal advice, transactional support, drafting and representation in relation to the Authority’s contracts, commercial and procurement activities. This is varied and wide-ranging role involving high value and often complex contracts and projects, public procurement exercises, construction contracts, grant funding agreements and subsidy control advice amongst other more general business and commercial matters. The team also deals with matters of corporate law, governance, licensing and general litigation so candidates with experience in those fields are encouraged to apply.

We have a strong culture of teamwork within the Department, and you may be required to undertake work in related areas covered by the team according to demand. A degree of flexibility is, therefore, beneficial. You may also be asked to provide support and guidance to other members of the team.

As an employee of North Tyneside Council you will feel valued from the moment you join us. We have a comprehensive induction process to ensure you are supported in your role from day one and our experienced and approachable management team will support you to achieve your professional goals.

In return for your valuable contribution you will have access to our excellent benefits package:

• Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme (for contracts of 3 months or more)
• A supportive Occupational Sick Pay scheme
• A generous annual leave allowance, which increases with service, plus bank holidays
• Annual pay increments up to the top of the salary grade
• A range of flexible working and leave options, including part-time working, to support work/life balance (subject to business requirements)
• Access to Occupational Health services including physiotherapy and counselling
• Our Employee Assistance Programme which includes a telephone helpline and extensive online resources for support and advice
• Extensive training and development opportunities including access to our Learning Pool online platform
• Supported career progression
• Discounted membership of our Leisure Centres including 5 gyms; 4 pools; 2 spas and over 250 classes every week
• The ‘Benefits Plus’ Scheme enabling salary sacrifice for Car Leasing; Cycle to Work Scheme; additional annual leave, public transport season tickets, and professional subscriptions
• Credit Union Savings Scheme

If you would like to be part of our team and are committed to providing excellent legal services in this vital area of work, we look forward to hearing from you.
