We wish to recruit an experienced, flexible, highly skilled planning or highways lawyer to join our Property and Commercial Development Legal Team. You must have experience of and a genuine enthusiasm for planning and/or highways law and an excellent approach to public service and client care. Candidates from both the public and private sectors are encouraged to apply.

The Role:

As a principal lawyer you will be the lead lawyer on all planning and highways legal matters for the Authority and the lead point of contact for advice in these areas. Candidates with experience in only planning or highways should be willing to develop knowledge in the other discipline.

You will carry a varied caseload, providing legal advice, support and representation to the Authority in its capacity as LPA and Highways Authority. This will include advising on matters of planning law, planning appeals and enforcement, attending planning committees, drafting section 106 agreements, and advising on matters of highways law as required, such as highway agreements, public rights of way and road traffic matters.

We have a strong culture of teamwork within the Department, and you may be required to undertake work in related areas covered by the team according to demand. A degree of flexibility is, therefore, beneficial. You may also be asked to provide support and guidance to other members of the team.
