There has never been a more interesting and exciting time to join St Helens Borough Council in our newly created role of Principal Solicitor (Planning and Regeneration).

Our new leadership team are busy recasting the way we deliver our public services as we continue to transform how we deliver fulfil our community and stakeholder promises priorities.
 
As part of our transformation journey the Council has made a significant commitment to the delivery of the Borough’s ambitious growth plans in creating a bespoke Growth Delivering Prosperity Team (GDP) responsible for accelerating delivery of the priority place-based growth projects, with a focus on securing shared prosperity outcomes, environmental enhancements and tackling the boroughs existing inequalities.
 
Now more than ever, we need to drive innovative change across our services, enabling the Council to take the next step in delivering its ambitious agenda and adapting collectively to a changing world - From Industry to Ingenuity. Perfectly positioned we are ideally placed to play a big part in our regional debate too at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse with easy access to Liverpool, Merseyside, Lancashire and Greater Manchester and excellent Motorway and transport links being just 2 minutes away from the M6 and M62.
 
You will be leading an in-house team dealing with regeneration, planning, property and contracts, including high value, high profile, and complex matters helping to ensure the success of the large-scale regeneration activity and economic growth ambitions for the Council.
 
A key focus will be to ensure the delivery of constructive legal and constitutional advice and assistance to Council, Committees, Elected Members and senior management across the organisation.
 
We are looking for someone with strong leadership and relationship management skills, with a passion and drive to deliver results consistently and provide high standards of customer care.
 
You will advise on the interpretation and development of the Council’s policy aspirations and processes and to develop a detailed understanding of the Council’s aspirations and ambitions in relation to the regeneration of the Borough and the wider regional context.
 
If you are the successful candidate, you will have a flexible approach to problem solving, demonstrating sound judgement and the capability to deal with unexpected situations. You will be organised, an excellent communicator and an effective team leader.
 
In accordance with the Council’s new Way of Working Policy, the post holder will be required to work in an agile-hybrid way, working predominantly from home.
 
Council employees are required to abide by the ethical standards embodied by the 7 NOLAN principles of conduct in public life. These include selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.
