An exciting Solicitor role has become vacant within the Child Care & Advocacy Team, which provides a quality legal service to Children’s Services. Our client department is undertaking changes, which allows our Lawyers to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. There will always be something new to learn so that you can continue to develop your knowledge and expertise.

With the onset of Covid, our team has expanded considerably and continues to grow due to the needs of our client. The Team advises across all areas relating to Public Law Proceedings including Adoption Law, Special Guardianship, issues in relation to Foster Care, and the Public Law Outline. You will also have the opportunity to carry out some Advocacy as and when required.

The opportunity provides an environment for a Child Protection Lawyer to join the team and work among a group of talented peers and provides an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and developing Childcare Solicitor to come on board and benefit from the team’s wide-ranging expertise.

We are looking for someone with experience in child-care law, either in a Local Authority or Private Practice setting, with the ability to work under[SB1]  pressure in a fast-paced environment. You will be able to confidently advise on all areas of childcare law, possess excellent communication skills with the ability to build and sustain strong working relationships and provide a first-class service to Children’s Services.

As a Service, we are looking for a committed individual with high levels of professionalism, integrity, and a genuine desire to contribute to the growth of the team. We are looking for a tenacious, compassionate and self-driven individual who is prepared to embrace our values and be part of the West Sussex culture.

Experience and Skills

You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister preferably with relevant experience in relation to child protection law within a local authority, although consideration will be given to applicants from Private Practice with relevant experience .

In addition, you will also be able to demonstrate the following key skills and experience:

Key Skills:

  1. Effective drafting and report writing skills.
  2. Fully competent research skills.
  3. Sound organisational skills.
  4. Competent presentational skills or advocacy experience in childcare law.
  5. Ability to analyse and advise on legislative and regulatory text and other legal materials and to present arguments in written form.
  6. Flexible and adaptable within the range of work for the post.
  7. Sound IT skills in order to use the case management system and digital court processes.

Qualifications and/or experience:

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister (ideally with a minimum of +1 PQE in child protection law)
  • Relevant chartered status of a professional body or equivalent high-level experience of involved practices
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering a quality customer focused service to others
