Job Description:

Exeter, EX2 4QD

£37,890 - £41,881

Permanent, full time

We have an opportunity to join our Conveyancing Team which is based in Exeter but for which the need to be ‘in the office’ is minimal.

The team deals with a huge range of property related matters and your main responsibilities will range from advising on and completing relatively straight forward land disposals to complex land acquisitions for various projects including building roads and other public infrastructure, Compulsory Purchase Orders, highway agreements, agricultural matters, planning agreements, landlord and tenant matters and everything in between. Building relationships and negotiating with national and local developers and central government bodies, amongst others, will be an essential part of the job, as will be the ability to advise your DCC clients and colleagues. No two days are the same and you will need to think on your feet and learn as you go, sharing that learning with your team along the way.

Whilst challenging, the job is also very rewarding. We are looking for someone who has strong Property Law experience and is confident in their own abilities with a track record to back that confidence up. Some local government experience is desirable but not essential. What is essential is a commitment to learning what working for a local authority means and involves and applying that to get the best results for Devon County Council and the people of Devon. A willingness to learn new areas of law and an ability to provide fast-paced legal advice on a variety of legal topics is essential.

As a member of the Conveyancing Team in Devon County Council’s legal services department, you will perform a crucial job. To help you do your best, we will support you in every way we can with flexible working options, technology and, above all, the trust and autonomy to enable you to make your own decisions and apply your legal expertise to resolve the complex and challenging matters that will come your way.

Benefits for you

On top of a competitive salary, we offer the following:
  • 24 days holiday (rising with length of service) plus Bank Holidays;
  • Access to the attractive Local Government Pension Scheme with excellent employer contribution;
  • Flexible working opportunities including flexitime and remote-working;
  • Access to Perks at Work and Devon Discounts schemes, offering DCC employees a fantastic array of savings and discounts at local and high-street brands;
  • Personal development opportunities.
In addition to this, DCC actively embraces flexible and remote working both through its working culture and the technology it utilises.

For an informal chat about this role, please contact Megan Cross on 01392 381231 (although please note Megan will be on annual leave from 16-30 August 2021).

Closing date: 27 September 2021
