This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and successful in-house Commercial Property legal team. The team provides advice and support to the Council with a proactive and solution-focused approach.

The Commercial Property team deal with a broad and diverse areas of law that includes property, school academy conversions, traffic regulation orders, planning law, land charges and compulsory purchases. It has been at the heart of a number of large and high value transactions across the city. These include the transformation of the train station, city learning quarter, i54, statutory school transfers, traffic calming measures and supporting the planning approval process amongst many other matters.

A number of vacancies have arisen within the Commercial Property team. The team is looking to recruit an experienced property lawyer - either Cilex qualified, a solicitor or a barrister to handle an interesting and varied caseload of land and property matters.

The successful candidate will undertake a range of property transactions of both a complex and routine nature including sales, purchases, leases, easements, licences, highways agreements and reports on title.

In addition to providing high quality legal advice and drafting and negotiating s278 and s38 agreements, the Commercial Property team advises on highways structure agreements, highway land transfers, stopping up orders, highways boundaries, highway dedication and traffic regulation orders, Compulsory Purchase Orders, right to buys, deferred payments agreements and general residential conveyancing.

Ideally you will have strong experience in residential property matters. An awareness or experience of areas covered by the Commercial Property team is desirable. You will be motivated, enthusiastic, and keen to provide a good standard of legal advice and support to the Council. Experience in Local Government is advantageous, although not essential as training is available and individuals with experience obtained in other sectors are welcome to apply.

The successfully candidate will be provided with training to enable you to fulfil the requirements of the role.
