Salary Type:

Job Description:

Overview

Buckinghamshire Council is a new, ambitious Unitary Authority committed to establishing one of the best councils in the country and creating positive change for local people, communities and business. The recently redesigned in-house Legal Service is expanding to support the varied work of this diverse Authority and provide a wider range of in-house specialism.

We are seeking a number of legal professionals who enjoy working collaboratively to offer proactive, innovative and customer-focussed advice and to support the delivery of multi-disciplined, high-profile projects. The directorate is at the heart of the organisation and provides a fast paced and extremely rewarding career in a supportive environment. This is an exciting time to join us, as we grow and develop our service.

About the role

You will manage a team of specialist Commercial Lawyers and act as a senior liaison point for clients. You'll ensure the team operates effectively and efficiently with the highest standards of client care, building and maintaining effective working relationships with senior managers in the client departments, and deputising for the Head of Legal Services when required.

You will undertake complex and high profile legal work, advising senior officers and members in respect of the Council's commercial business in a proactive and politically sensitive manner in line with the Council's vision, values and strategic objectives.

About you

We welcome applications from Solicitors, Barristers and Legal Executives, who are expert in their field and an outstanding manager of professional staff, built from a career in either the public or private sector.

With a strong work ethic and a desire to learn from each other, our teams work collaboratively to ensure the best outcomes for our clients. We are seeking an exceptional team leader whose vision aligns with ours, and whose contribution will help us achieve our goals.

Lessons learned from our response to Covid-19 have shaped the way we want to work in future. Online meetings via Microsoft Teams, and vlogs from our Senior Leadership Team have all played their part in allowing us to come together and work in ways which are even more flexible. We've adopted a new hybrid way of working, encouraging our colleagues to take control of their own work-life balance. There will be times where you'll need to be in one of our offices, attend external meetings or hearings in Buckinghamshire and further afield. Outside of that, as long as it works for us too, we'd like you to take a flexible approach to your working arrangements.

If that's not enough reason to join us, you will be entitled to a range of benefits including a very competitive employer pension contribution, generous annual leave allowance and access to discounts from a range of services and retailers.

Take a look at our dedicated career social media pages @bucks_careers for exclusive content from our Legal Team, and to find out more about life at Buckinghamshire Council.

We reserve the right to close the vacancy once we have received sufficient applications, so please be advised to submit your application as early as possible.
