Job Description:

Overview

Buckinghamshire Council is a new, ambitious Unitary Authority committed to establishing one of the best councils in the country, and creating positive change for local people, communities and business. The recently redesigned in-house Legal Service is expanding to support the varied work of this diverse authority and to provide a wider range of in-house specialism.

We are seeking legal professionals who enjoy working collaboratively to offer proactive, innovative and customer-focussed advice, and to support the delivery of multi-disciplined, high-profile projects. Legal Services is at the heart of the organisation and provides a fast paced and extremely rewarding career in a supportive environment.

This is an exciting time to join us, as we continue to grow and develop our service. Career development is something we are very passionate about; we are committed to building an exceptional in-house Legal Service, utilising our colleague's talent and making the most of what they have to offer.

About the role

We are recruiting for two positions, a Senior Lawyer and a Lawyer. Please state on your application which level you wish to be considered for:

Senior Lawyer - Salary grade 9

You will undertake a complex and varied caseload; work on projects including CPOs, attend public inquiries, deliver high value, bespoke S106 agreements, attend committee and give support to junior members of the team.

Lawyer - Salary grade 8

In this role you will provide support for planning inquiries, undertake research and drafting, negotiate S106 agreements and attend planning committees.

About you

We welcome applications from Solicitors, Barristers and Legal Executives with relevant experience advising officers and members in planning and enforcement law, built from a career in either the public or private sector.

Naturally, you'll be highly motivated and proactive, with specialist knowledge in Planning and Planning Enforcement. You will bring experience, expert knowledge and excellent drafting skills to the role, as well as the ability to provide sound legal advice. Experience in highways law will also be welcome.

Lessons learned from our response to Covid-19 have shaped the way we want to work in future. Online meetings via Microsoft Teams, and vlogs from our Senior Leadership Team have all played their part in allowing us to come together and work in ways which are even more flexible. We've adopted a new hybrid way of working, encouraging our colleagues to take control of their own work life balance. There will be times where you'll need to be in one of our offices, attend external meetings or hearings in Buckinghamshire and further afield. Outside of that, as long as it works for us too, we'd like you to take a flexible approach to your working arrangements.

If that's not enough reason to join us, you will be entitled to a range of benefits from Buckinghamshire Council including a very competitive employer pension contribution, generous annual leave allowance and discounts in a range of services and restaurants.

Take a look at our dedicated career social media pages @bucks_careers for exclusive content from our Legal Team, and to find out more about life at Buckinghamshire Council.

We reserve the right to close the vacancy once we have received sufficient applications, so please be advised to submit your application as early as possible.
