East Midlands Strategic Migration Partnership (EMSMP)
 
Grade J £45,859 (annual pay increase pending)
37 hours per week
 
Fixed term: two years

(with potential extension subject to confirmation of funding)

Secondment considered
 
This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership and support to legal advisers and social workers across the nine upper tier local authorities in the East Midlands in their management of Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC), care leavers, looked after children and individuals subject to a NRPF condition. You will provide legal advice, support, develop precedents and working practices, research points of law, contribute to the production of briefings, updates, or other materials for circulation, and provide training sessions on immigration and asylum law, practice and precedents. Representation on casework is specifically excluded.
 
A qualified solicitor/barrister/legal executive, the ideal person will have detailed knowledge of Law relevant to age assessments of unaccompanied asylum seekers, NRPF and human rights legislation, and knowledge of recent developments in central government policy on asylum seekers, refugees and migration issues. Experience of judicial reviews and knowledge of welfare law would also be beneficial. You will have experience of working within a local authority, partner regional agency or equivalent organisation, including responsibility for policy development, advocacy and partnership working. Additionally, you will have the ability to provide training to external stakeholders, to build relationships across the partnerships, to manage conflicting priorities, and to meet demanding deadlines.
