Job Description:

£41,607 - £44,598

Are you the Civil Litigation Lawyer we’re looking for?

If you’re ambitious, vibrant, and want to gain exposure to fast paced local authority litigation then read on! We pride ourselves on being an agile, client-centric, close team who deliver for our communities.

Tower Hamlets is known for offering the best of London in one borough. The list is long but includes Brick Lane, Victoria Park, Canary Wharf, Columbia Road market, Tower of London, V&A Museum of Childhood and Whitechapel Art Gallery. We’ll offer you the opportunity to work with a team of specialists which will harness your personal development and technical skills. You’ll have flexibility to work from home, or the office.

This is a full time, permanent role based in the Town Hall with the ability to work remotely for most of the week.

We have one of the youngest, most multi-cultural and fastest growing populations in the country - set to rise to 341,000 by 2023. Our residents are our greatest asset, and our part of the East End has been enriched by many generations of migrants who have made their home here.

This is an exciting time to join the council as we bring the old Royal London Hospital in the heart of Whitechapel back to life as our new town hall. Our well-resourced and Lexcel accredited legal team has a crucial role providing the full range and variety of expert services across all areas of the council’s work.

We have also recently restructured our legal service which is now in the best position to meet the needs and aspirations that we share with our residents, and the wider community.

If you’re a highly motivated legal professional keen to maximise your potential, then we’d love to hear from you. You will be joining a dynamic, supportive, diverse team, working in a relaxed but professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

You will be one of a team of lawyers dealing with a variety of Civil Litigation matters. These include disrepair, homelessness, anti-social behaviour, unauthorised occupation, employment and miscellaneous litigation. You will be able to demonstrate experience in 2 or more of these areas and the transferable skills and willingness to undertake a variety of work. You will have experience of conducting advocacy and be able to conduct your caseload with minimum supervision and will be accustomed to working at pace in a busy team.

Requirements

You must be a Qualified Solicitor/Barrister or Fellow of CILEX and hold a practising certificate.

Closing date: 7 March 2021
