Principal Officer Grade 7 - 10 (£36,922 - £39,880 per annum)

Applications are invited for the post of Solicitor/Legal Executive to work as a key member of the Legal and Governance Team. The post is offered on a full-time basis of 37 hours per week (agile or flexible working is available subject to service needs).

The successful applicant will support the Head of Legal and Governance in providing a comprehensive, professional and progressive legal advice service to the Council. The role supports managers and employees on all elements of the law and best practice as it relates to local authorities.

Educated to degree level or equivalent, applicants should be a qualified Solicitor or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives and have previous experience in a legal environment, preferably in a local authority. The ability to demonstrate an understanding of the local government legal framework is essential.

The successful applicant will be computer literate with the ability to learn as well as having experience of Microsoft Office packages. Competent legal and negotiation skills are required as well as the ability to work effectively within a team and also work alone on individual pieces of work. The successful applicant will be able to work under pressure with large volumes of work and will have demonstrable strengths in developing effective working relationships at all levels within the organisation.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide information in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement.

The successful candidate will be automatically enrolled in the Local Government Pension Scheme and will be required to obtain a Basic Disclosure.
