Job Description:

£25,481 - £28,672

There has never been a more interesting and exciting time to work within the Law and Governance Directorate at Wirral Council. We are busy expanding our team of lawyers, to provide us with the right mix of people and skills to respond to the innovation, improvement and growth around us and provide an excellent legal service to the Council and our communities.

An opportunity has arisen for two Trainee Solicitors to join our department. The roles will provide a platform for developing your skills within the field of Law and drive you forward towards becoming a fully qualified Lawyer. Both roles will play a part in helping us achieve our objectives, particularly in relation to our ambitious regeneration plans. We are looking for individuals who can provide forward thinking, customer focused and effective legal advice/support (as directed).

A key focus of the role will be to provide advice to Members and officers of the council, including constitutional, procedural and administrative advice, ensuring the Councils objectives are at the heart of the service. Day to day duties will involve drafting appropriate legal documents, notices, forms, memoranda as required which protect the interests, income and reputation of Wirral Council. You will also undertake advocacy, attend upon Counsel and attend court as directed.

Above all we are looking for individuals who can provide pragmatic and customer-focused advice on current legislation in relation to contracts and commercial, including statutory interpretation, for internal and external contacts as required. Whilst at the same time working towards the Professional Skills Course (PSC) final professional qualification.

The successful candidate will work on their own initiative, be solution focused, pragmatic and escalate matters where appropriate. They will further show tact, diplomacy, empathy and political awareness with resilience, especially in dealing with competing and demanding pressures and potentially emotionally difficult situations and information. Ultimately, you will demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm to making a difference for residents, you will role model our values and will be an ambassador for the Council.

Interviews are planned for December 2020 and there may be some flexibility in start dates for successful candidates up to Summer 2021

This post is politically restricted at Sensitive level.
