£46,845 - £52,403 per annum plus 20% salary supplement for Monitoring Officer

Location: Agile Working / Tavistock / Totnes, Devon

We have an exciting opportunity for a qualified legal professional to join us as the Head of Legal Services and Monitoring Officer for South Hams District and West Devon Borough Councils.

Reporting to the Director for Customer Service and Delivery, the Head of Legal Services and Monitoring Officer will be responsible for the successful management and support of a team of legal professionals advising elected members and Council officers on a diverse range of legal matters across both local authorities.

The role will also work closely with the Director of Governance and Assurance in providing robust and effective decision-making and providing transparency and clarity of accountability across the Councils.

You will have experience of working within a politically sensitive environment, with knowledge and experience of working in local government and of acting as Monitoring Officer.

The role will form part of the Councils' Extended Leadership Team and the post holder will be responsible for contributing to this group to provide outstanding leadership, to empower the wider workforce, encourage innovation, partnership working and a culture of flexibility to achieve the delivery of efficient and effective ways of working whilst ensuring high performance and successful outcomes.

The IMPACT Behavioural Framework has been developed to support South Hams District and West Devon Borough Councils' ambitions for their workforce. The framework aims to enhance both individual and organisational performance and will be applied in recruitment, performance management and career progression. It defines the behaviours that all colleagues across both councils are expected to consistently demonstrate at work.
