Job Ref: CED-20-003

Job type: 2x Full-time 35 hours

Salary: £42,432- £44,373 pa (PO4), Career grade scheme to £47,274

We are looking for enthusiastic committed Child Care lawyers to join a leading London Authority who wish to develop themselves through demanding opportunities in the next stages of their career. We work closely with our clients to achieve the best possible results for some of the most vulnerable in our community.

The role
We are a busy child care team, handling a demanding yet rewarding caseload of mainly child protection cases, and advising across a wide range of related children’s social care issues. We practice mainly in the Central Family Court, where the standard of our work enjoys a good reputation, and where the successful candidates will have advocacy opportunities. Although an understanding and experience of the Local Authority environment is an advantage, we would consider any applicant with a private practice background wishing to transfer their skills into the public sector or develop themselves in this role.

Location
Initially, at home, or usually, Laurence House, Catford. SE6 4RU.

What we’re looking for
You will have a thorough knowledge of the legal framework within which a Local Authority exercises its powers and duties in relation to the provision of Children’s Social Care services. You will be able to communicate well across a variety of professional contexts, listen to and assist the clients in their analysis of complex situations, and advise clearly and authoritatively as to the options and choices that present themselves. You will have an understanding of evidential issues and an ability to support the achievement of  positive and robust outcomes for children and families. You will have advocacy skills, not only in the Court context, an eye for detail and good drafting skills. You will be well organised, efficient, flexible and able to work well with colleagues in the team and elsewhere in the organisation. A willingness to accept challenge and develop skills is an advantage.

In return, we’ll offer excellent development opportunities, plus a range of benefits that includes a career average pension scheme, flexible working and the opportunity to make a real difference to our local community.
