An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Legal team for full time or part time Qualified Solicitors assisting the Borough Secretary & Monitoring Officer in all his/her duties as Monitoring Officer.

Northampton Borough Council, Daventry District Council and South Northamptonshire will merge to become West Northamptonshire in April 2021 and this vacancy will form a crucial role moving forward into Unitary.

The Job:

As an integral part of a professional legal team, you will assist the Borough Secretary & Monitoring Officer in providing legal advice to all aspects of the Council services, you will be a positive and highly motivated person who is confident, versatile and innovative.

The Person:

The successful candidate(s) will be energetic, enthusiastic and keen to embrace the challenge as we move towards Unitary status. You will be dealing with many different types of work in a fast pace moving authority and deal with Members, Stakeholders and Partners. In this role the successful candidate will be part of the wider team legal team and assist the Borough Secretary and Monitoring Officer in his/her duties.

Duties will include providing advice on the areas below: -

  • Procurement
  • General Commercial and contract work
  • Governance
  • Standards
  • Member/Officer conduct
  • Reviewing Cabinet reports and others referred by the Borough Secretary & Monitoring Officer
  • RIPA
  • Whistleblowing
