Are you an ambitious, proactive and committed legal professional looking for a new challenge?

About the role
We are looking for a Childcare Advocate to make a difference to the lives of children and young people of Rotherham. Now is the time to join our committed and forward thinking Children's Legal Team at Rotherham Borough Council. Building on the success of our current team, we are seeking an experienced, motivated and driven Childcare Advocate to work with us.

We play a key partnership role with the Children and Young People's Service who are proud to have recently been rated by OFSTED as "good" with outstanding elements. This is an ideal time for a versatile legal professional to join our team.

Are you looking for a job which provides a work life balance along with a wide and varied workload, is rewarding, challenging and gives you the satisfaction of knowing your intervention will bring better outcomes for vulnerable children and young people?

The role is based in our modern offices at Riverside House where you will be supported throughout your work in an environment in which you can thrive. In these roles, you will make your mark by helping to shape the service as it moves forward, demonstrating the value that a high quality legal service plays in improving the lives of the most vulnerable children.

About you
It is important that you have excellent advocacy, communication, team-work and relationship building skills. In this role you will need to use your initiative, be flexible and driven to deliver an excellent high quality service; demonstrating a real commitment the role and the Legal Services Team.

You need to be a Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive Advocate and hold the relevant current practicing certificate. Higher Rights of Advocacy is essential. Experience in a local authority setting is preferable but not essential. This is not a training opportunity.  Extensive advocacy experience is essential as is the ability to deal with High Court applications.

About us
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council has made rapid and significant progress on its improvement journey, which is clearly demonstrated by the expedited return of our powers in September 2018. This is testament to the hard work and commitment of the council's employees and new Senior Leadership Team, now in their third year. This announcement comes on the back of our "Good" Ofsted report for children's services earlier in the year. That our Children's Services have been transformed has been a critical indicator of the changes that we have made.

This is an excellent time to join Rotherham which has the fastest growing economy in Yorkshire. We are delivering major regeneration and housing as well as creating new jobs and opportunities for our residents. Rotherham is a real 'central UK' location with excellent road and rail links and is ideally placed near the scenic countryside of the Peak District, whilst also being conveniently located next to the vibrant city of Sheffield.

We offer an excellent pay and benefits package which includes membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, as well as a range of health and wellbeing and other benefits. This makes working for us an attractive proposition. If you have the ambition to make a real difference and are committed to delivering an excellent legal service we would welcome your application.
