Cumbria County Council is looking for commercial lawyer to join the Legal and Democratic Services team as Lead Lawyer – Commercial.

The Council’s Commercial lawyers support the Council with many of its functions.  The Council has a busy procurement service that benefits from regular legal support from the Commercial lawyers in drafting terms and conditions, contracts and advising on procurement law. The Council’s Economic Development team requires support when providing grants to ensure appropriate security and obligations are in place to deliver the aim of those grants. The Council’s Commercial lawyers are also central to the commercialisation and transformation agenda of the Council.

The Role
As a Lead Lawyer you will handle your own caseload of commercial matters with support of more junior lawyers and legal officers, whilst benefiting from overall supervision by experienced Senior Lawyers; you will work as business partner to one of the Council’s key teams to ensure the provision of the most appropriate and cost-effective management of the that team’s work; and you will contribute to the management of the wider Legal Services and support the organisation in achieving a high standard of corporate governance.

The ideal candidate for this position will be lawyer with 3 year pqe able to manage their own caseload of commercial matters.  We are keen to hear from candidates looking to develop and progress, as we offer excellent career progression and we strongly encourage flexible working to support and enable our team.
