Full time, Fixed Term for 12 months (Maternity Cover)

City of Wolverhampton Council Legal Services are seeking an experienced and highly motivated lawyer with an innovative, commercial approach to ensuring the delivery of a high quality legal service to lead the Commercial Property team and manage a substantial case load. This is an exciting opportunity for talented individuals to be part of an ambitious and dynamic Council with a substantial growth and regeneration program. Legal Services is LEXCEL accredited and you will be joining a multi-award-winning Commercial Property team.
 
We work closely with Councillors/members, strategic partners, developers and stakeholders to deliver a wide range of projects.

The posts will form part of the management team reporting directly to the Head of Legal Services and will involve managing a team of 9 that deal with a wide range that includes planning, development, schools, local land charges and highways works.
 
This role will require the candidate to possess a solid background in  commercial property, transactional matters together with knowledge of the work covered by the team and must be ready to hit the ground running. In addition to handling a stimulating and challenging caseload they will play a key role in developing the department through business development, networking, providing advice on complex matters and demonstrate highly developed negotiation and drafting skills. 
 
Substantial management experience is essential, and experience gained in a Local Authority setting would assist and an understanding of local government and procedures together with an appreciation of the challenges facing local authorities.
 
We are looking for an experienced and skilled, innovative and proactive lawyer specialising in complex commercial and regeneration work and able to deliver professional, high quality and timely legal advice on a range of matters including:
  • Large redevelopment/regeneration projects
  • Planning law
  • Right to Buys
  • Conveyancing
  • Landlord and Tenant matters
  • Compulsory Purchase Orders
  • Academy conversions
  • Traffic Regulations Order and Highway matters
  •  Highways and General advice on Corporate Landlord matters
