About the role

Surrey County Council is looking to expand and consolidate our successful inhouse legal team in the area of child protection. We have created new and exciting opportunities within our children's social care team for a Principal Lawyer, two Senior Lawyers and a paralegal.

We are looking for a flexible, motivated and ambitious solicitor or barrister to join our progressive service. As a Principal Solicitor you will have an unrivalled opportunity to actively and strategically contribute to the future delivery of a first class legal service.

For this role, you'll be passionate about leading and working as part of a team that delivers timely, clear and effective legal advice, representation and assistance to the Council. You will be expected to manage a team, contribute to the strategic management of the service and hold a quality caseload of complex matters relevant to your area of work. Recent legal experience, either in-house or in private practice is essential. We are looking for demonstrable management and/or supervisory skills.

The team is skilled and Lexcel accredited. Feedback from the inspection is that the induction and supervision of lawyers is an area of good practice. The variety of quality case work in Surrey presents all lawyers with opportunities to develop their knowledge, experience and understanding.

In return we offer a positive flexible working environment, personal and professional development opportunities, enthusiastic colleagues, passionate about the work that they do and a competitive remuneration package.
