Working as a Legal Adviser within our Governance and Legal team, you will provide proactive, commercial and pragmatic legal advice to both Historic England and to English Heritage Trust Clients under a shared services agreement.

This is a new role in the legal team to meet growing demand for property and planning work. This fascinating and unique role combines advice across some of the most unique historic properties in the country as well as to the Government`s statutory advisor on the historic environment.

You will be one of the main points of contact for the provision of legal advice on some potentially high-profile matters for both Historic England and English Heritage. You will deliver to agreed timescales with your Clients and prepare and keep precedent documents up to date. A good understanding of both organisations will be required to ensure the advice you provide is aligned to their respective principles, practices and risk appetite.

You will be a team player who is capable of taking responsibility for your own caseload. Experience of developing and managing strong and positive partnerships both internally and externally is essential alongside your excellent communication skills. With your inspirational and engaging style, you will have the ability to build trust and confidence at all levels of seniority. You will have experience of property law and also be willing to carry out some planning work.

We are the public body that looks after England`s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people to understand value and care for them. We offer a wide benefits package including access to the Civil Service Pension Scheme, a generous 28 days holiday rising to 33 days after 5 years` service, corporate discounts, free entry into English Heritage sites across the county and development opportunities to ensure you achieve your goals. Having just won the Gold Award from MIND, we also recognise the importance of a healthy work -life balance. Therefore, we offer the flexibility in your working day to create a pattern that works for you.
