The Borough of Basildon is alive with opportunity and has the ingredients to be one of the most successful and desirable places in the South East. As the largest economy in the Thames Estuary outside London, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved but we are never complacent. We are driving inclusive, sustainable growth to provide opportunity and prosperity for local people and businesses, access to quality homes, vibrant town centres and an enhanced local environment. We have ambitious plans for our towns and we are looking for an individual to ensure those plans are realised.

You will join the council’s litigation and advice team, working with friendly and supportive colleagues and dealing with a wide variety of legal work relating to the function of the council.

Decisiveness and ambition for our borough are key qualities in this role so that you discharge our important statutory functions, play a key role in advising on and facilitating effective service delivery.

Reporting to the assistant solicitor to the council/litigation manager, you will be expected to advise and challenge as appropriate, providing advice and support as you undertake all appropriate legal work associated with local authority matters.

A keen collaborator and team player, you will often attend meetings of the council’s committees as legal advisor. As a strong communicator, verbal and written, you will undertake criminal prosecutions and civil proceedings for the local authority, including drafting relevant legal paperwork and advocacy.

This is a career building role and for those who choose to join us on this journey, there’s an exciting journey ahead. One that comes with the opportunity for personal development. It’s also one that brings rewards for your hard work and talent.

If you would like to be part of Basildon’s success, we look forward to receiving your application.
