Job Description:

Salary range: £47,844 - £51,720 (Relocation Allowance available)

Ashford Borough Council, Ashford, Kent TN23 1PL

This is a special legal role dealing with major planned developments with a wide ranging caseload, working for a Council that really values and invests in its staff and is committed to its environment, determined to create great places as it grows. We are committed to delivering a high quality professional legal service, we offer an interesting range of work, flexible working and are now recruiting to this key role to contribute to our Legal Services team and the Borough.

Ashford town’s major regeneration is gaining real pace, contributing to it being Kent’s number one business location but there are still plenty of exciting projects to come and, by way of contrast, the rest of this largest Borough in Kent is lovely countryside peppered with attractive villages.

Ashford is one of the fastest growing towns in the South East and a great place to live. Ashford’s growth and economic success is being driven by the area’s unrivalled connectivity – the town is just 38 minutes by high-speed rail from Central London, set in great countryside and close to the Channel coast; with excellent schools and house prices that are lower than in much of the south east. The quality of life is excellent.

Are you an experienced and proactive lawyer specialising in complex planning and development?

Are you able to deliver professional, high quality and timely legal advice, draft s106 agreements, funding agreements, participate in officer project teams and conduct planning appeals, public inquiries and High Court proceedings?

Great career opportunities for high calibre lawyer seeking a new challenge.

If you also have commercial property and, or contract and procurement experience there maybe scope to tailor the emphasis of this role to suit your skills and areas of interest. We are willing to consider candidates who wish to work part time.

We work closely with councillors, developers and the local community to deliver projects at all scales – up to and including a new garden town of nearly 6,000 homes. The Council has successfully bid for more than £3m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to bring forward a range of exciting improvements to Victoria Park. The £90m expansion of the Designer Outlet has recently opened.

We offer an excellent benefits package, including salary-linked pension scheme, flexible working hours, agile working, generous holiday entitlement, free car parking at our offices with the town centre and Ashford International train station within a few minutes’ walk. If being part of this transformation excites you, we would love to hear from you.

For an informal chat please contact Vivien Williams, Head of Legal and Democracy on 01233 330230 or Jeremy Baker, Principal Solicitor – Strategic Development on 01233 330574.  Applicants are welcomed from both the public and private sector.
